What is Regenerative Farming?
Regenerative farming is an approach that restores and enhances soil health, ecosystems, and biodiversity. It aims to create a sustainable, resilient agricultural system in harmony with nature, in contrast to conventional farming, which often depletes soil and relies on synthetic inputs.
“Regenerative farming isn’t a new concept; it’s a return to the wisdom of nature.”
At DaVero, we embrace regenerative practices through:
Build Soil Health
Our Soilkeeper, Michael Presley, leads the way with innovative composting methods and the use of worms to enrich our soil. By employing experimental techniques and reduced tillage, we improve soil health, enhance water retention, and minimize erosion, nurturing the land for future generations.
Increase Biodiversity
We foster a vibrant ecosystem with a large pollinator and edible garden running through our Lower Farm. Our pigs are essential for vegetation management and composting. In partnership with the Monarch Joint Venture, we support butterfly habitats, enriching our farm’s diversity and promoting a tapestry of beneficial microorganisms and insects.
Improve Water Management
Our thoughtfully designed trenches channel rainwater across our property, storing it effectively like a bank account rather than allowing it to run off into Dry Creek. With two key reservoirs on-site, we manage our water resources efficiently, promoting natural water cycles and reducing runoff.
Promote Ecosystem Health
We enhance our ecosystem with seasonal sprays and teas made from native plants and garden growth. These natural solutions restore essential nutrients without synthetic chemicals and are even drinkable by us, reflecting our commitment to a balanced and thriving environment.
Enhance Carbon Sequestration
Our healthy soils and biodiverse gardens, orchards, vineyards, and olive groves capture and store more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, contributing to climate change mitigation.
